Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma & Anesthesia Care for South-Asia

Policy Prioritisation of SOTA Care in South Asia

The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery (LCoGS) data shows that the quality of surgical care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is poor. We analysed the National Health Policies of SAARC countries (except Bangladesh) for keywords relevant to surgery and surgical care.

Burden of Surgically Avertable Disease - A Situational Analysis

LMICs have a high burden of surgical diseases, many of which are common and easily treatable. Case fatality rates for such conditions are high due to a lack of access to surgical care. The aim is to calculate the burden of surgically avertable disease in India, other South Asian countries, and the world.

Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma & Anesthesia Care in India

Government-appointed committees and relevant national policies have guided health planning in India for the past eight decades. We aimed to assess the national policy prioritisation of surgical care in India.

India has 81,150 surgical specialists to cater to a population of 1.3 billion, denoting a massive shortage. We conducted a retrospective secondary data analysis of PG and SS surgical specialty spots across 29 states and seven union territories.

According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, India had a Cataract burden of 30.34 million in 2017-18. As per the National Health Profile, the number of cataract surgeries achieved during that time was only 6.66 million. Is Universal Cataract Coverage an achievable dream for a developing country like India?

The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery (LCoGS) and subsequent research have highlighted gaps in blood banking and its impact on surgical care in several LMICs, including India. We aimed to conduct a systematic assessment of blood banking in India.
